An efficient multi-objective evolutionary approach for solving the operation of multi-reservoir system scheduling in hydro-power plants

This paper tackles the short-term hydro-power unit commitment problem in a multi-reservoir system — cascade-based operation scenario. For this, we propose new mathematical modeling which goal is to maximize total energy production of plant sub-daily operation, and, simultaneously, water content (volume) reservoirs. solving problem, discuss Multi-objective Evolutionary Swarm Hybridization (MESH) algorithm, recently proposed multi-objective swarm intelligence-based optimization method has obtained very competitive results when compared existing evolutionary algorithms specific applications. The MESH approach been applied find optimal discharge and power produced at maximum reservoir volume for all possible combinations turbines plant. performance with that well-known approaches such as NSGA-II, NSGA-III, SPEA2, MOEA/D realistic considering data from two cascaded plants Brazil. Results indicate showed superior than alternative terms efficiency accuracy, providing profit $412,500 per month projection analysis carried out.
